Journal Entry: Jem Finch

The verdict was said and Tom Robinson was found guilty. I still don’t understand why… Atticus used great argumentation and I really thought we had won until I saw Atticus expression; the jury was looking away from Tom. This was something I didn’t really expect.

Mrs. Maudie invited us to her house today to eat some cake and while we were coming out from there, Mrs. Stephanie suddenly said Bob Ewell threatened to harm our father and spat in his face. I have been worrying about this for a long time; I cant live without my father and if he dies I’d have to go live with Aunt Alexandra and I know the first thing she’ll do is fire Calpurnia.

When Atticus came back home he calmed me down. He said that there was nothing to worry that he was the type of person that said thing but never really did them. This relaxed me a little but I am still kind of worried.

I also found out my Aunt is very racist. She doesn’t want the Cunningham’s over at our house because she says we don’t live in the same social conditions.

As for me, hair is starting to grow and I am planning to get in the football team next season. This is all I can really say for now.
