The Humanoid Race
The color of someone’s skin doesn’t mean they are better or less than the rest of the people. Even though there is still racism in the world, it has gotten a lot better compared to the time when the Europeans came to America and enslaved the Native Americans because they wanted their land and treated them differently because of their skin color. In the movie Avatar, the sky people (ex marines who wanted to destroy the Na’vis land for minerals) felt superior and referred to them as savages because of their skin color, and believed the Na’vis wouldn’t fight over their land because of fear of what could happen. This wonderful movie is directed by James Cameron.
It all started when the sky people wanted to destroy the Na’vis world for minerals. The sent Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) for them to gain the trust of the Na’vis and encourage them to move from under the tree so the sky people could get the mineral they wanted in an easier way. The Na’vis easily accepted for Jake to be part of their tribe because he used to be a warrior and he could teach them some of the techniques he used and in that way they could use them too. They integrated him to their tribe and rapidly he even had an animal of his own. As time passed, he fell in love with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) his trainer and the chief’s daughter. Once this happened he started changing his mind about being part of the sky people’s plan and liked being part of the Na’vis.
One day he fell asleep with Neytiri in the middle of the woods and the sky people started their plan. They sent strong machinery to Pandora to destroy it. They believed the Na’vis wouldn’t dare to fight back, and just move from the land they wanted because of the power they had because of they skin color… But that didn’t happen. Jake had to confess he was once part of the plan and knew that someday that would happen.
I believe this movie was one of the best science fiction movies ever made. I can say this because it sold over $2.04 billion in tickets and it was nominated to nine Oscars and won three. This movie even though it was fiction, had a lot of social issues which can connect with our lives. For example: the difference of skin color, the sky people feeling superior and even the habitat destruction for minerals.
From blue people to ex marines to unnatural animal, there is nothing about this movie that is not interesting. This outstanding movie by James Cameron is not only science fiction but it even connects with real life. Watching Avatar is like watching a suspense movie; you’ll get scared when they fight and always wonder what will happen. If you are the kind of person that likes suspense, action, adventure, and movies with special effects, this movie will best suit you.
